Eligibility

  • Applicants are neither Taiwan R.O.C. citizens nor overseas Chinese.
  • Applicants who had Taiwan R.O.C nationality, must have given up their Taiwan R.O.C. nationality for 8 years or more and approved by the Ministry of the Interior Taiwan R.O.C. Counting back from the day of application, applicants must have continuously resided abroad for more than 6 years (8 years for School of Medicine and School of Dentistry applicants).
  • Applicants of foreign nationality concurrently holding a permanent residence status in Hong Kong or Macao who have household registration history in Taiwan and who at the time of application have resided in Hong Kong, Macao, or another foreign country for no less than 6 years (8 years for those seeking training in medicine, dentistry and Chinese medicine).
  • An applicant who was a former citizen of Mainland China and who holds a foreign nationality with no history of household registration in Taiwan, and who at the time of application has resided overseas continuously for no less than 6 years (8 years for those seeking training in medicine, dentistry and Chinese medicine).

Admission Questions

Am I eligible to apply as an international student?

What is the requirement for my intended program?

What are the programs offered by TMU and is it taught in English?

Please refer to the list of available international degree programs and the language taught in each program.

Can I choose more than one program?

Yes, you can apply for up to 3 programs. However, each applicant can be admitted to one program only.

I have been educated in an English-speaking country, do I still need to provide proof of English proficiency such as TOEFL or IELTS?

Applicants who have had at least four years of formal education in an English-speaking country may choose to provide attendance records as proof of English proficiency.

What should I do about recommendation letters?

All recommendation letters must be submitted online by the referees, not by the applicants.

Did you receive my letters of recommendation?

The status of recommendation letters will be updated through the online application system.

Technical Questions

What happens if I forget my password?

On the login page of the application system, click on the “forgot password” next to the User E-mail. After filling in your email address, the system will generate a new password for you which will be sent to your email account shortly.

Why can’t I submit my application?

You need to fill out all required fields and upload all required documents in order to submit.

Scholarship Questions

How do I apply for TMU International Student scholarships?

New students apply for scholarship along with admission on the online application system.

What is the length of the scholarship offered by TMU?

Master’s students: maximum of 23 months. Ph.D. students: maximum of 35 months.

What are the terms and conditions for TMU scholarships?

Maintain academic performance to a certain standard, complete required service hours and apply for annual renewal. Please refer to the regulations for more details.

Is there any financial support for international students to do data collection overseas? If yes, how can we apply for it?

Students may apply for a limited number of TMU grants to support research and study abroad, as well as international conferences. Students should consult TMU’s Study Abroad Guidelines and provide all necessary documents. The number of grants given shall be determined by the evaluation committee based on available budget.

According to old regulations, students who published in a SCI/SSCI journal can apply for outstanding grants for the amount of NT$50,000/semester for up to two academic years. Can we still apply for this now?

Students can apply through the Office of Research and Development under the Scholarship for Taipei Medical University Student Thesis Regulations.

Can 3rd-year Ph.D. students extend their scholarship to 4 years or at least for an additional semester? Is there any support from university for this? Not all of us can get full support from our program for the rest of the time until we graduate.

Ph.D. students should have completed all courses by the end of the 3rd year, so they need not pay tuition after the 3rd year. In addition, students do not need to stay in Taiwan to complete their thesis, so they may choose to go back to their countries to complete their thesis if they can afford the cost of returning to TMU to defend it. Students may also seek part-time research work or assistantship in their departments if they decide to stay in Taiwan to complete their thesis.
