Pre-Registration Checklist

VISA (DO NOT ENTER TAIWAN with visa-exempt entry nor landing visa)

International students must enter Taiwan with a visitor visa or resident visa.

Students who enter Taiwan with a visitor visa will need to apply a resident visa before Alien Resident Certificates (ARC) application.

According to the regulations of National Immigration Agency, “A foreign national who enters with a residency visa, shall apply for an ARC within 30 days after entry into Taiwan.

Document Authentication

  • Students should present original degree certificates and transcripts upon registration
  • All documents shall be authenticated by the overseas Taiwan Representative Office

6-month Medical Insurance

Proof of 6-month overseas medical insurance (coverage from the day you depart from your country) is required for your registration.

If you are currently enrolled in the Taiwan National Health Insurance (NHI), you can waive the medical insurance fee by presenting the NHI enrollment statement.

Off-campus Accommodation

Private-Owned Accommodation

It is easier to find a private accommodation after you arrive, however, you may need to arrange a temporary accommodation (such as a hotel or B&B) when looking for a permanent place.

You can get an idea of prices and availability by looking on the internet, or look in

  • an accommodation agency
  • friends and relatives living in Taipei
  • the TMU Campus Security Center (ssc@tmu.edu.tw)

Private accommodation usually charges 1-2 months of deposit and the first month rent upon signing the contract.

Open your bank account in Taiwan

Students shall open a bank account in order to receive monthly scholarship or TA/RA payment.

The ATMs (Automated Teller Machines) on main campus can be found at the following locations:

How to Make a Payment for the Tuition Bill

  1. Pay in Cash: Upon arriving in Taiwan, you can pay in cash using Taiwan Dollars (TWD).
  2. Credit Card Payment: Request to pay using a credit card through iss@tmu.edu.tw. (Note: Debit cards, even those with a credit card function, are not accepted.)
  3. Wire Transfer: Make a wire transfer and pay in USD.
    1. Download Your Tuition Bill
      Visit Land Bank eSchool System to download your tuition bill.
    2. Locate the Virtual Account Number
      Find the 14-digit virtual account number listed on your tuition bill.
    3. Complete the Wire Transfer
      Transfer the required amount in USD to the following account:

      • Beneficiary Account Number: [Your 14-digit virtual account number]
      • Beneficiary Name: Taipei Medical University
      • Beneficiary Address (if needed): 250 Wuxing Street, Taipei City 110, Taiwan
      • Bank Code/ABA No. or Swift Code: LBOTTWTP079
      • Bank Name: Land Bank of Taiwan, Hsin-Yi Branch

    Important Notes:

    • Ensure the transferred amount covers the full tuition bill. If the amount received by TMU is less than the amount on your bill (e.g., due to banking fees or currency exchange fluctuations), you will need to make an additional payment before registration.

    You can make the payment in Taiwan via 7-11, credit card or ATM.
    All late payments should be made in cash through a branch of LAND BANK OF TAIWAN .

    Note: To pay your bill with credit cards issued by other countries, download your tuition bill for the Bill Number and continue the payment through here.

    All students are required to submit the “Physical Examination Record Form(https://newacademic.tmu.edu.tw/)”.

    The medical exam fees vary between hospitals.

FAQ

Orientation & Registration

Yes, there will be TMU Spring 2026 Orientation events. Email invitations will be sent to students in Early February.

All new students are expected to participate in the Orientation.

The Online Orientation (via Google Classroom) begins in January, and it continues with online events and information sessions throughout January and February.

For Spring 2026, the on-site registration will take place on February 11, 2026.

Admitted applicants may request to defer their admission to the next academic year after receiving the official enrollment notification via the admission system.
Deferral is only allowed from a fall intake to the next fall intake; spring admission is not applicable for deferral.

The applicant should log in academic system with their TMU account to create the application and submit it to their intended program.

Your intended program will help you to complete the application and deliver it to the Office of Academic Affairs.

*Please note that TMU scholarships will not be retained if admitted applicants choose to defer their admission.

Scholarship

The TMU scholarship is initially awarded for two semesters, starting from the month you complete your first registration at TMU.

Students my apply for renewal once during their awarded second semester.

Fall Intake 2025:
September 2025 – July 2026

Spring Intake 2026:
February 2026 – January 2027

Yes. TMU scholarship recipients may apply for renewal during their second awarded semester, subject to eligibility and review.

  • Fall Intake 2025: Renewal application opens in May 2026

  • Spring Intake 2026: Renewal application opens in November 2026

However, please note that the maximum total award period is 23 months.

No. Submission of a renewal application does not guarantee approval. All renewal applications are reviewed based on eligibility requirements and academic performance.

All scholarship payments are directly deposited into your Taiwan bank account and require at least 20 business days for processing.

If you submit your ARC and Taiwan bank account information by March 15, 2026, your February and March payments will be disbursed together on April 5, 2026.

If you submit the required information after March 15, your scholarship payment will be received at a later date, and the actual disbursement date will be adjusted accordingly based on administrative processing.

You may contact your intended program directly for research assistant opportunities.

TMU scholarship offers for those deferring their admission to next semester will become invalid.

TMU Scholarship applications from returning students will not be considered nor accepted.

For Taiwan scholarship recipient, please contact the overseas Taiwan representative Offices.

University Housing

Only four-person shared rooms are available. Due to limited vacancies, applicants are NOT guaranteed housing placement or roommates.

Insurance

Yes. Please fill in the insurance status survey during the orientation and obtain a transfer-out certificate from your previous NHI-registered unit and submit it to OGE (Office of Global Engagement) for processing.

Yes, all registered TMU student are request to join the student accident insurance. The cost will show on your school bill, price may vary each semester from TWD 256.

The National Health Insurance Act stipulates that foreign nationals who with Valid Alien Resident Certificate must be registered in the National Health Insurance program upon living in Taiwan for 6 months (6 months of continuous residence in Taiwan or with one trip abroad not exceeding 30 days when the actual residency period of 6 months is reached after the days abroad have been deducted).

On Campus Employment

Yes and you must apply a student work permit before your employment starts.

According to the “Regulations on the Permission and Administration of the Employment of Foreign Workers”, you can apply for the student work permit if you are officially enrolled as a degree student in any university.

With the exception of summer and winter vacations, students with a valid work permit may work a maximum of 20 hours per week. The maximum duration of a work permit is 6 months. Work Permit for fall semester is valid until March 31 of the following year; work permit for spring semester is valid until September 30. A new work permit shall be applied after expiration. Students should return their work permit (if still valid)  if they suspend or discontinue their schooling.

The Workforce Development Agency has the right to revoke a permit if the applicants do not follow the regulations. According to Employment Services Act, foreigners who work without a work permit will be fined from TWD 30,000 to 150, 000.
