The registration date for new international students is from February 5th to 17th , 2024.

Pre-Registration Checklist
VISA (DO NOT ENTER TAIWAN with visa-exempt entry nor landing visa)
International students must enter Taiwan with a visitor visa or resident visa.
Students who enter Taiwan with a visitor visa will need to apply a resident visa before Alien Resident Certificates (ARC) application.
According to the regulations of National Immigration Agency, “A foreign national who enters with a residency visa, shall apply for an ARC within 30 days after entry into Taiwan.”
Document Authentication
- Students should present original diplomas and transcripts upon registration
- All document shall be authenticated by the overseas Taiwan Representative Office
6-month Medical Insurance
Proof of 6-month overseas medical insurance (coverage from the day you depart from your country) is required for your registration.
If you are currently enrolled in Taiwan National Health Insurance(NHI), you can waive the medical insurance fee by presenting the NHI enrollment statement.
Accommodation
University-Owned Accommodation
- TMU North Gate House can accommodate 61 students.
- Cooking equipment of any kind is not allowed in individual student rooms or lounges. This includes hot plates, indoor grills, hot pots, immersion heaters, or any item with open coils. The microwaves and refrigerators are provided.
- You can indicate a preference of the type of room when submit your application, however, TMU does not guarantee housing for all international students.
- Student should pay 5-month of rental and basic utilities upon moving in.
Private-Owned Accommodation
It is easier to find a private accommodation after you arrive, however, you may need to arrange a temporary accommodation (such as a hotel or B&B) when looking for a permanent place.
You can get an idea of prices and availability by looking on the internet, or look in

Private accommodation usually charges 1-2 months of deposit and the first month rent upon signing the contract.
Open your bank account in Taiwan
Students shall open a bank account in order to receive monthly scholarship or TA/RA payment.
The ATMs (Automated Teller Machines) on main campus can be found at the following locations:

Orientation & Registration
Is TMU Orientation Online?
TMU Fall 2023 Orientation events are online. Email invitations will be sent to students in early August. Students will need to log in My2TMU for the online orientation.
Is Orientation mandatory?
All new students are expected to participate in the Online Orientation.
When is Orientation? How long is it?
The Online Orientation begins in August, and it continues with online events and information sessions throughout August and September.
When does registration take place?
For Fall 2023, the registration process will take place from August 18 to September 7.
Can I defer my admission to next semester?
You could defer your admission to next semester/year after you get the enrollment notification (via admission system).
Applicant should log in academic system with TMU account to create the application and submit it to your intended program.
Your intended program will help you to complete the application and deliver it to the Office of Academic Affairs.

Scholarship
What’s the duration for my TMU Scholarship?
Your TMU scholarship is awarded for two semesters (starting from the month of your first registration)
TMU scholarship recipients could apply for an extension during their second semester, however, the maximum award period is 23 months.
When will I receive the first scholarship payment?
All scholarship payments will be directly deposited to your Taiwan bank account and take at least 20 business days to process.
If scholarship recipients provide their ARC & Taiwan bank information by Sep 30, 2023, your September and October payments will be made in late October.
I was awarded for full tuition waiver, are there any other financing opportunities?
You may contact your intended program directly for research assistant opportunities.
I will defer my admission to next semester, do I need to re-apply for TMU scholarship application when return to TMU?
TMU scholarship offers for those deferring their admission to next semester will become invalid.
TMU Scholarship applications from returning students will not be considered nor accepted.
Can I defer my Taiwan scholarship to next semester?
For Taiwan scholarship recipient, please contact the overseas Taiwan representative Offices.
University Housing
How do I state my housing preference?
You could indicate your housing preference of room type when filling in the application. Due to limited vacancies, students are NOT guaranteed housing placement, preferred dormitory, room type, room rate, or roommates.
Insurance
I am now covered by Taiwan NHI, could I transfer my account to TMU?
Yes. Please fill in the insurance status survey during the online orientation and pay TWD 4130 (Sep 2023-Jan 2024) insurance upon registration.
Is student accident insurance mandatory?
Yes, all registered TMU student are request to join the student accident insurance. The cost will show on your school bill, price may vary each semester from TWD 250 to 280.
What’s Taiwan National Health Insurance (NHI)?
The National Health Insurance Act stipulates that foreign nationals who with Valid Alien Resident Certificate must be registered in the National Health Insurance program upon living in Taiwan for 6 months (6 months of continuous residence in Taiwan or with one trip abroad not exceeding 30 days when the actual residency period of 6 months is reached after the days abroad have been deducted).
NHI Fees for international student:
TWD 826/month paid by student
TWD 550/month paid by Taiwan government
On Campus Employment
Can I work on campus?
Yes and you must apply a student work permit before your employment starts.
According to the “Regulations on the Permission and Administration of the Employment of Foreign Workers”, you can apply for the student work permit if you are officially enrolled as a degree student in any university.
With the exception of summer and winter vacations, students with a valid work permit may work a maximum of 20 hours per week. The maximum duration of a work permit is 6 months. Work Permit for fall semester is valid until March 31 of the following year; work permit for spring semester is valid until September 30. A new work permit shall be applied after expiration. Students should return their work permit (if still valid) if they suspend or discontinue their schooling.
The Workforce Development Agency has the right to revoke a permit if the applicants do not follow the regulations. According to Employment Services Act, foreigners who work without a work permit will be fined from TWD 30,000 to 150, 000.
