Allen Y. Chao, a trustee of Taipei Medical University (TMU), has generously contributed $1.4 million to his Alma Mater, advancing TMU’s professional training and digital evolution.
After graduating from TMU’s School of Pharmacy, Chao pursued a doctoral degree in Industrial and Physical Pharmacy in the United States. In 1984, he founded Watson Pharmaceuticals, which rapidly grew to become the third-largest pharmaceutical company. This achievement solidified Chao’s status as a prominent figure in the biotechnology pharmaceutical sector and an exemplar of Asian entrepreneurship.
Chao’s philanthropic journey with TMU began in 1999 and over the past 25 years, his contributions have exceeded $4 million USD (130 million NTD). His unwavering commitment to the university’s growth has enabled TMU to align with the global trends in translational medicine, propelling it toward its vision of becoming a world-class medical university dedicated to sustainable development.
In pursuit of enhanced competitiveness, TMU and its affiliated hospitals have initiated an advanced training program for faculty members and medical practitioners seeking to study abroad. This year, 18 faculty members and doctors have applied for advanced study at renowned universities, including Stanford University, Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, Yale University, and the University of Illinois.
Furthermore, TMU has embarked on its Medical Information System 3.0 initiative. This plan involves integrating the medical information systems of its three affiliated hospitals, enabling seamless digital transformation. In the future, this system will autonomously generate research data and integrate with the international standard clinical study information center, thereby raising the standard of innovative medical services.
