Cancers have long dominated the list of top causes of death in Taiwan. More than ten thousand people die of breast cancer, cervical cancer, colon cancer and oral cancer each year. The Health Promotion Administration of the Ministry of Health and Welfare promotes screening for these cancers in hopes of earlier detection and treatment. This will not only reduce the mortality rate; it can also prevent precancerous lesions from developing into cancer.

Shuang Ho Hospital’s Health Bus has served the public in remote areas and provided community screening services since 2010. From the viewpoint of preventive medicine, cancer screening is a secondary preventive phase where appropriate screening tools can lead to early diagnosis. Proper implementation can ensure these screenings achieve maximum results, and education can further change health behaviours in the public at large in the primary preventive phase.
