“Sparkling 65: Leading a New Era of Health” – TMU celebrates its 65th anniversary

Taipei Medical University (TMU) held its 65th anniversary celebration ceremony on May 29, with the theme “Sparkling 65: Leading a New Era of Health”.

Distinguished guests from home and abroad were invited to join the celebration, including: Hsueh Jui-Yuan, former Minister of Health and Welfare; Executive Director Lin Ching-Fung of the Hospital and Social Welfare Organizations Administration Commission; Head Prosecutor Lu Wen-Chung of the Supreme Prosecutors Office; and ambassadors and counselors from Taiwan’s diplomatic allies the Kingdom of Eswatini and the Federation of Saint Christopher (St Kitts) and Nevis. The 2024-25 Academic Year Outstanding Alumni Awards were also presented in the ceremony.

In his speech, TMU Board Chairman Ray-Jade Chen stated that TMU President Mai-Szu Wu’s “One Campus” has enabled the implementation of “digital, precision, and sustainability” in every aspect of TMU operations.
- Digital Transformation: TMU actively promotes “AI for All, All with AI” to integrate artificial intelligence into teaching, research, clinical, and administrative systems. The new AI literacy center located on the Xinyi Campus will become operational in September this year, with the hope of enhancing digital competitiveness for faculty and students.
- Precision Health: TMU promotes the application of next-generation sequencing (NGS) as a tool for diagnosis, prediction, and health promotion. Apart from that, TMU also makes plan to perform whole genome sequencing (WGS) on newborns with severe health conditions, striving for early detection of rare diseases and congenital abnormalities.
- Sustainable Development: TMU is implementing a comprehensive low-carbon transformation across its campus and healthcare system, to actively address climate change challenges. These efforts have consistently been consistently recognized by government and international organizations.

President Mai-Szu Wu announced that TMU received high recognition in international academic rankings and yielded significant progress in institutional development. In the 2024 THE World University Impact Rankings, TMU was ranked within the top 101–200 universities globally. In the Essential Science Indicators (ESI), 13 TMU disciplines entered the ESI top 1%. Additionally, TMU again won the Healthcare Category Role Model Award in the 2024 Taiwan’s Best University Rankings presented by CommonWealth magazine. TMU has garnered wide public recognition for its research and teaching quality.
With regard to digital infrastructure, TMU successfully implemented a new HIS system across its four affiliated hospitals last year, with the HIS 4.0 Smart Health Digital Transformation Platform established exclusively for the TMU System. The system integrates clinical and management data to support teaching, research, and patient care, so as to drive precision medicine and smart diagnostics while laying the foundation for the future of the healthcare industry.
Through 65 years of development, TMU has witnessed the evolution and innovation of medical education and the health industry in Taiwan. Looking ahead, TMU will strive to become a leading university in health education and medical practices in the Asia-Pacific region, while emphasizing the fundamental principles of innovation, integration, and sustainability.
