Work Permit Information for Foreign Students

⚠️ International students who would like to work/intern in Taiwan are required to apply for work permission regardless of the place of employment.

⚠️ International students working without a work permit could be fined between NT$30,000 to NT$150,000. Students need to be aware that unauthorized employment could lead to deportation.

⚠️ If the contract type is “研究獎助生” (Research Scholarship Recipients), a work permit is not required. Please confirm your contract type with your supervisor or the Human Resources Office before starting.

Overview

The period validity

Work permits are valid through the end of the current academic year (September 30th.)
For example, work permit applied for on October 20th, 2024 (AY 113-1) and on April 13th, 2025 (AY 113-2) are both valid until September 30th, 2025.
However, for students who expect to graduate in the same semester in which they apply for the work permit, the permit will only be valid until June 30th of their graduation year.
For exemptions, please refer to Q11 & 16 of MoL FAQ. The maximum validity period is 1 year.

Cost

NT$100 per application
Payment method: via ATM or post office (see Q14 & 15 of MoL FAQ for more information)

Working Time Limit

The maximum working hours are 20 hours per week, except during summer and winter vacations

Electronic Service of Student Work Permit

As electronic services implementation from 1 January 2020, for the application approved, the Ministry of Labor no longer issues student work permit card.
When foreign students who apply for work permit on EZ Work Permit website agree on the electronic service, after the work permit has been issued, the applicant can then collect the electronic document (work permit) on the website.

⚠️Reporting Employer’s Details and Number of Hours Worked⚠️

It is mandatory for all students holding work permits to report their employer details and the number of hours worked each semester to the school.

It usually takes 7-10 working days to get the work permit. Log in the online system with your account to see the application status.

FAQ by MoL

My old work permit has expired. How can I extend its validity?

Each work permit validity period is treated independently and cannot be extended.

Please submit a new application and select “work permit” as the application type.
Do not select “permit re-issue”, as this option is only for replacing a lost permit and does not extend the validity of the original permit.

How can I check whether my application has been received?

If your application has been successfully submitted, the status should show one of the following:

學校審核中 The school application is under review
送審中 The application is submitted
審核中 Under examination

If you do not see the above status, please check if you have completed the following steps:

Application fee payment through ATM:
Please log in to the platform the day after payment and submit the application.
Application fee payment through postal remittance:
Please log in to the platform, enter the receipt information, and then submit the application.

How can I update my personal information in the system (passport number, ARC number, or name)?

To update your passport number, ARC number, or name, please submit a new application and select “other” as the application type.

Be sure to upload relevant supporting documents before submitting.
For example, to update your passport number, please provide photocopies of both your old and new passports.

How do I request a refund of the application fee?

Steps:

Download and complete the application form “R00-審查費退費申請書表” from the link above.
Prepare the following documents (see details in the application form):
- Payment certificate (receipt)
- Photocopy of your bankbook cover
- Brief written explanation of the reason for the refund

Please make sure that you have filled in 1 - 5 before uploading the form. (1) Name, Student ID Number, Department/Program, ARC Number; (2) Reason for Work Permit application; (3) Applicant's signature and signed date; (5) Adviser's/professor's stamp and signed date; (6) Department/program stamp and signed date

Make sure you have filled in 1-5 before uploading the form.

The signature date should be within 2 weeks of your application.
Please choose only one reason for apply.
If the reason for apply is “Severe economic hardship and need to provide proof”
- The applicant is receiving scholarship → please prepare a statement that explains your situation, signed/stamped by you, your advisor, and your program. Upload the statement along with the pre-application form to the EZ Work Permit platform.
- The applicant is not receiving scholarship → please provide a proof that you are not receiving any scholarship
If there are any alterations (strike-through, white-out, etc.) on the pre-application form, the advisor or program must sign/stamp next to the change.

Proof of Enrollment/Copy of Student ID Card

The photocopy of student ID card must be rate 1:1 original card size.
Print on A4 size paper, with both front and back of the card on the same page.
The card serial number must be clear and complete (on the bottom right corner of the card.)
Card releases through camera/photo cannot be accepted. One A4 size paper only for one student ID card.

Please provide documents following either A or B.
