Governance

Green procurement

As part of our efforts in environmental protection and sustainable use of resources, TMU introduced its green procurement policy since 2008. TMU procures products only with green and energy-saving labels to ensure that no negative impact on the environment is created through its purchase. We also commit to raising green procurement awareness through environmental education and events on campus to encourage faculty, staff and students to support and achieve green consumption through eco-friendly actions such as using eco-efficient and eco-friendly products.

Water Resources Management

The water resources management has become a pressing issue for TMU as our community expands. TMU manages water resources by reducing the usage of water and introducing wastewater treatment. TMU buildings are equipped with water conservation facilities, such as rainwater recovery and water-saving toilets devices, to control the water consumption. Meanwhile, TMU also treats sewage separately and channel the sewage to pre-treatment plant before discharging into the sanitary sewer to ensure zero-pollution to the environment.

Low Carbon Campus

To effectively control the load of electrical equipment and safety in electricity use, TMU implemented 3 main low-carbon campus measures, including electricity usage application system, energy-consuming equipment inspection, and an energy monitoring system. TMU’s energy consumption in 2019 was 19,160,300 kWh/year, which is 1% of energy saved compared with 2018.

Sustainable Commuting

Visitors, students, and our staff are encouraged to make use of the shuttle services provided between campuses, affiliated hospitals and the near-by MRT stations so that we help to reduce the CO2 emission through use of private transportation.

Meanwhile, to ensure safety on TMU campus, pedestrian and vehicle routes are planned separately. Vehicles are obligated to park at the outer periphery of school buildings or in the basement parking lot. Dedicated pedestrian paths are marked in outdoor parking areas to protect the safety of users.

Smoke-Free Campus

TMU stipulated the Tobacco Hazard Prevention Measure to prevent tobacco hazards to protect the physical and mental health of faculty, staff and students and build a high-quality campus environment. No tobacco is allowed on campus, both indoors and outdoors, and events that may help promote smoking are not banned to take place on TMU campus.
