Taipei Neuroscience Institute launched in TMU

The TMU-Taipei Neuroscience Institute was launched at Shuang Ho Hospital on April 21, 2018. It is the first center of its kind in Taiwan, with over 100 neuromedical practitioners and professional teaching faculty. The center has Asia’s first ROSA Spine mechanical robotic surgical assistant for precise navigation in spinal and brain lesion surgeries. This greatly elevates the standard of neurological care in Taiwan and provides patients with the best and most precise minimally invasive neurological surgical services.

Translational oncology and neuroscience are areas where great medical progress is happening very quickly. After establishing the TMU-Taipei Cancer Center in 2012, TMU established the Neuroscience Institute to stay on the leading edge of medical care trends. The center has over a hundred specialists in neuromedical fields and many more neuroscience faculty. It includes specialized facilities for and experts in neuro-oncology, radiosurgery, cerebrovascular disease, neurorehabilitation, degenerative disease, neuropsychology and cognitive function, epilepsy, vertigo, sleep disorders, headache, neurotraumatology and intensive care, pediatric neurology, pain control, and spinal and peripheral nervous disorders. The institute is Taiwan’s most complete neuromedical treatment facility. Its first director is Professor Yong-Kwang Tu, the first World Federation of Neurological Societies president from Asia. In the 1980s, Prof. Tu introduced difficult cerebrovascular and skull base tumor surgeries to Taiwan, raising local medical standards. Over the decades he has served thousands of patients who needed these surgeries, and he is renowned both globally and in Taiwan.
