The Progress of a Decade: TMU’s Ongoing Commitment to E-Learning and Open Education
TMU, as a member of the Taiwan Open Course and Education Consortium (TOCEC), has been dedicated to open education for the over past decade.
TMU provide high-quality Massive Open Online Courses, MOOCs, breaking education’s limitation of boundaries.
The variety of courses include the fields of clinical pharmacology, nutritional science, AI, translational medicine, etc. Currently, over 30% of TMU’s online courses are taught in English. With more than 380 thousand students from 200 countries all over the world, TMU makes itself closer to a university that ensures inclusive and equitable quality education and promotes lifelong learning opportunities for all.
Making good use of MOOCs’ features, TMU established the creative Digital Self-Learning System, providing TMU students chance to earn credits by finishing the online courses. This pioneering educational approach won TMU an exemplary award and recognition from TOCEC. Noticeably, Associate Professor Nguyen Quoc Khanh Le’s course “Artificial Intelligence in Bioinformatics” attracted more than 47 thousand students from over 120 countries with a course completion rate of 11.72%.
More Excitingly, TMU formed the alliance “International Oriented Open Online Instructors (IOOOI)” with 5 universities, including the National Taiwan Ocean University and the National Taipei University of Technology. The alliance aims to promote and advance digital learning through collaborations and education-friendly environments. In 2023, TMU got the recognition from the e-Learning International Conference & Open Education Forum (ELOE). All the positive feedback TMU received empowers TMU’s determination to keep promoting open education and digital teaching. In the future, TMU is ready to support its professors in polishing and advancing their teaching methods with the development of technology.
