At the 2024 National Sustainable Development Awards on December 19, Taipei Medical University (TMU) and Shuang Ho Hospital were honored in both the Education and Private Organization categories, standing out among 162 institutions nationwide.
TMU integrates sustainability through lifestyle transformation, energy transition, and digital transformation. Initiatives include promoting energy conservation, fostering a “carbon intuition” mindset, and encouraging participation in the “Sustainable Meat-Free Challenge” every Meat-Free Monday to embed environmental awareness into daily routines.
In energy transition, TMU upgrades high-energy-consuming equipment, installs solar panels, and implements smart building management systems to enhance energy efficiency. Its digital transformation strategy features an integrated smart water and electricity management system, enabling carbon tracking and energy monitoring to achieve a low-carbon, net-zero campus.
Shuang Ho Hospital became Taiwan’s first medical institution to achieve carbon footprint verification for health check services. The hospital integrates low-carbon practices across its kidney care center, pulmonary rehabilitation center, and other clinical departments. Additionally, it has developed four circular-economy products, including recycled garbage bags made from waste medicine bottles and needle disposal containers crafted from medical waste plastics.
These awards underscore TMU Healthcare System’s commitment to sustainability, guided by its principle of “promoting the collective wellbeing of society through education and medical care.” Moving forward, TMU remains dedicated to low-carbon operations, smart healthcare management, and contributing to the sustainable development of Taiwan and the global community.
