Taipei Medical University (TMU) continues to advance its commitment to integrating community healthcare and strengthening regional medical support and collaboration, aligning its education, healthcare system, and international engagement with evolving global health needs.

Community Healthcare

Participants with healthcare backgrounds from the 2025 TMU New Southbound Policy Elite Study Program provide health services for migrant workers as part of community healthcare engagement.

A key aspect of this commitment is TMU’s emphasis on extending healthcare beyond hospital settings into communities. By integrating clinical practice with public health and social care, TMU promotes healthcare models that address ageing populations, chronic disease management, and preventive care, reflecting Taiwan’s comprehensive and accessible healthcare system.

This approach is actively demonstrated to emerging healthcare professionals and young talents through their participation in programs such as the New Southbound Policy Elite Study Program. During their stay, participants engage in field trips and site visits that provide exposure to Taiwan’s community-based healthcare practices. These experiences allow them to observe how medical services are delivered at the community level and how healthcare systems are connected with social support networks.

The program brings together professionals from diverse backgrounds, including physicians, nurses, pharmacists, biomedical engineers, and more. Over the course, participants undertake academic coursework, research internships, Chinese language study, and cultural immersion. Through these activities, participants develop a broader understanding of how clinical knowledge can be applied within integrated healthcare systems.

A distinctive feature of the program is its focus on community and social care. Through field-based learning, participants gain insight into how Taiwan’s healthcare system extends beyond hospital settings to support ageing populations, chronic disease management and preventive care. These experiences bridge clinical training with broader public health and social welfare perspectives.

The program also facilitates two-way learning. Participants contribute perspectives from their home countries, where healthcare priorities often include infectious diseases, parasitic conditions, and maternal health. In contrast, Taiwan offers experience in managing ageing societies and long-term care. This exchange supports the development of collaborative approaches to diverse regional healthcare needs.

TMU’s commitment is further reinforced through its affiliated hospitals, which actively engage in international medical missions in partner countries such as the Marshall Islands, Eswatini and Somaliland. These efforts extend community-oriented healthcare practices beyond Taiwan, supporting global health development in varied contexts.

Through these initiatives, TMU continues to cultivate globally competent healthcare professionals while strengthening the integration of community healthcare and international medical collaboration. By demonstrating interdisciplinary education in practice, TMU contributes to more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient healthcare systems across Asia.
