Taipei Medical University (TMU) has selected outstanding alumni in three categories: Public service; academic achievement; and business management.

For Academic Year 2023, Huang Shih-Ying from the 13th class of the Department of Dentistry, Yang Chih-Wei from the 18th class of the Department of Medicine, and Teng Ching-Leou from the 18th class of the Department of Pharmacy were honored as outstanding alumni.

Public service: Huang Shih-Ying

Huang Shih-Ying is an alumnus of the 13th class of the College of Oral Medicine. He has dedicated over 40 years to working in Japan. Among other accomplishments, he became the first Taiwanese person to serve as the president of a specialized medical school in Japan, a position he has held for 19 years. Not only did he establish a dental clinic in Japan (where his skills were highly revered), but he also served at a Japanese medical as a lecturer, then as a dean of academic affairs, dean of student affairs, vice president, and eventually president of the school. All the while, he has trained dental health professionals and promoted international exchange between Taiwan and Japan. In 2010, he introduced dental hygienist training and education to the dental community in Taiwan, which later led to the establishment of the School of Oral Hygiene. He has also been committed to the training of other medical professionals in fields such as nursing, long-term care, childcare, and oral hygiene. He established international collaboration and learning opportunities with several schools in Taiwan to jointly develop and nurture talent, promoting global perspectives.

Huang thanked his alma mater for the education he received and encouraged TMU’s students, “Whenever there’s a possibility, try to do it! Don’t give up your opportunities! When you’re taking action, do it with your whole heart, and don’t quibble about wins and losses.”

Academic Achievement: Yang Chih-Wei

Professor Yang Chih-Wei is an alumnus of the School of Medicine’s 18th class, and is currently the vice president of Chang Gung University. He has dedicated himself to researching kidney diseases related to leptospirosis.
