The 2024/25 Warm Hearts, Warm Winters initiative successfully concluded at the end of January 2025, bringing together international students, school faculty and staff members to make a meaningful impact.
ReUse @ TMU, launched in 2021, has now entered its fourth year. The initiative is rooted in the concept of reuse and resource circulation, encouraging the collection of unused household items to be exchanged for donated receipts. This approach not only extends the lifecycle of goods but also reduces waste through redistribution. By integrating sustainable practices, the event reinforced the value of second-hand items, underscoring the importance of thoughtful consumption and reuse. Additionally, the donated receipts were used to generate charitable funds, further amplifying the positive impact of the initiative.
The event demonstrated the power of generosity and community support, as donations poured in to assist children, international students, and migrant fishermen during the colder months. A wide variety of items—including stationery, toys, books, winter clothing, and insulated bottles—were collected and redistributed. Many international students expressed their gratitude, noting that these donations provided both physical warmth and a sense of belonging as they adapted to life in a new environment. Beyond addressing immediate needs, the initiative fostered deeper connections among diverse members of the TMU community.
Aligned with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the initiative contributed to reducing inequalities (SDG 10) and improving well-being (SDG 3). By focusing on tangible outcomes and promoting the circular use of resources, the event highlighted the practical ways communities can work together to achieve sustainability.
As the activity concludes, we thank everyone who participated for their generosity and efforts. Warm Hearts, Warm Winters has laid a strong foundation for future initiatives, and we look forward to continuing our commitment to sustainability and community care. Through practical, results-driven actions, we hope to bring warmth and hope to even more people in the years to come.
