Taipei Medical University (TMU) has been ranked 5th worldwide for Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3: Good Health and Well-being in the Times Higher Education (THE) Sustainability Impact Ratings 2026, placing the university among the world’s leading institutions advancing health-related sustainable development. TMU was also ranked in the 101–200 band globally overall.

The result reflects TMU’s longstanding commitment to integrating medical education, biomedical research, healthcare delivery, and community engagement to address evolving health challenges. As a health-focused university, TMU advances the vision through its One Campus model, which brings together the university and its affiliated healthcare institutions to promote collaboration across education, research, clinical practice, and administration. This integrated approach enables TMU to translate knowledge into real-world impact while supporting healthier communities.

In addition to its strong performance in SDG 3, TMU also advanced significantly in SDG 4: Quality Education, rising from the 301–400 band to the 101–200 band globally. The university continues to embed sustainability across teaching and learning, offering interdisciplinary and issue-based learning opportunities that connect healthcare, society, and environmental challenges. In 2024, TMU offered more than 1,900 sustainability-related courses covering all 17 SDGs, reflecting the university’s efforts to prepare future healthcare professionals to address increasingly complex global issues.

TMU also maintained strong performance in SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, SDG 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure, and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities, ranking within the 101–200 band globally in all three categories. These results reflect the university’s ongoing work in innovation, knowledge translation, and expanding access to healthcare and educational opportunities through local and international engagement.

Formerly known as the THE Impact Rankings, the THE Sustainability Impact Ratings evaluate universities’ contributions to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals through research, stewardship, outreach, and teaching. More than 1,600 institutions worldwide participated in the 2026 assessment, with universities required to submit SDG 17 and at least three additional SDGs for overall consideration.

TMU participated in seven SDGs this year, demonstrating the breadth of its sustainability efforts across health, education, innovation, employment, equality, and partnerships. The results highlight the growing role of medical universities in advancing sustainable development through education, research, healthcare, and cross-sector collaboration.
