Taipei Medical University (TMU) has made a significant climb in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027, rising to the 326–350 band from 401–500 last year.

The advancement strengthens TMU’s position on the global stage and reflects continued progress across its core missions of education, research, innovation, and international engagement.

Released on September 30, the THE World University Rankings 2027 include a record 2,297 universities from 118 countries and territories, making this the largest edition in the ranking’s history.

The result marks a clear upward move for TMU in one of the world’s major university rankings. THE also introduced more granular ranking bands for the 2027 edition, designed to provide greater differentiation and more precise benchmarking among universities. While institutions outside the top 200 were previously grouped into broader bands, the 2027 edition introduces narrower bands further down the ranking.

The THE World University Rankings assess research-intensive universities across five core areas: Teaching, Research Environment, Research Quality, Industry, and International Outlook, providing a broad view of university performance across education, research, knowledge transfer, and global engagement.

Among the five performance pillars, Research Quality recorded TMU’s most substantial improvement, rising from 63.6 to 73.7. Industry also increased from 86.6 to 90.4, remaining the University’s highest-scoring pillar. The gains underscore continued progress in research performance and industry engagement.

TMU’s move from the 401–500 band to 326–350 marks a clear step forward in the University’s global standing and provides further momentum for its continued development as a globally connected medical university. By strengthening the links among education, research, healthcare, innovation, and international collaboration, TMU will continue to expand its academic and societal impact and translate its strengths into meaningful contributions to health and well-being worldwide.
