Taipei Medical University was awarded first prize in the Industry Co-creation Category of the Global Views Monthly’s 2021 University Social Responsibility (USR) Awards for its ‘Building a Sustainable Biomedical Innovation Ecosystem’ program.

Starting from 2020, Global Views Monthly’s USR Awards examined universities in Taiwan and their achievements in connecting UN’s 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with their efforts in addressing the developmental need of local communities, as well as the universities’ contribution to bringing solutions to global issues.

By transforming ‘biomedical knowledge’ into ‘industrial innovation’, TMU has created an environment that encourages creativity and needs-based innovation. TMU not only provides entrepreneurial consultations, but also partners with Stanford Byers Center for Biodesign to cultivate the skills development of innovative thinking among faculty members.

In recent years, the TMU Office of Business Development has been committed to facilitating the commercialization of research findings and technology through sustainable business models. To date, TMU has established 18 start-up companies to support our faculty members and students pursue their ambitions. The Shuang Ho Biomedical Park is expected to open for business in 2022, enabling TMU to further expand its biomedical innovation ecosystem with improved space, infrastructure, and professional services.
