Mandarin learning, cultural immersion,
and local opportunities.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Education, the number of international students in Taiwan for the 112th academic year is 116,038, an increase of approximately 9.4% compared to the 111th academic year. Among them, students from Vietnam make up the largest group, totaling 27,491, followed by students from Indonesia (16,725) and Malaysia (10,457).
The TMU Working in Taiwan Program aims to support students in building professional networks and opening pathways towards a career in Taiwan. Our initiatives include Mandarin-learning resources, workshops on work regulations and job-search skills, industry engagement through visits and guest lectures, and internship/employment opportunities.

ARC Extension After Graduation
After graduation, if your ARC (Alien Resident Certificate) purpose of residence is listed as “Study,” it will expire within two weeks.
However, you are eligible to apply for an ARC extension twice, with each extension lasting one year (for a total of two years), to pursue employment.
(Refer to Article 11 of Regulations Governing Visiting, Residency, and Permanent Residency of Aliens)
Under the 2026 amended Act for the Recruitment and Employment of Foreign Professionals,
Holding the extended ARC, graduates may seek employment, take internships, and work without a separate work permit.
(Additional qualifications are still a must for works that require professional certification or registration.)

ARC Purpose Change After Employment
Foreign workers must obtain the work permit issued by the Ministry of Labor, and update their ARC within 15 days to change the purpose of residence from “Other” to “Employment.”

Am I eligible for employment after graduation?
Foreign and overseas compatriot students graduated in Taiwan can apply for an employment work permit through several ways, including:

There are 7 work categories to apply to, including “Specialized or Technical Works”.
The application should be made by the employer through the EZ Work Permit Platform.
What are the 7 categories?
- A. Specialized or Technical Works
- B. The Director or Manager of an Approved Business Invested or Established by Overseas Chinese or Foreigner(s)
- C. School teacher
- D. Full-time Foreign Teacher in Cram School
- E. Sports Coaching or Athlete
- F. Arts and Performing Arts
- G. Contracting Foreigners

Monthly salary no less than NT $47,971
To apply for a work permit by “Wages and Work Experience” and under category A, the qualifications include certificates, degree in certain fields, work experiences, etc.
The specific requirements differ depending on the types of work, but the monthly salary should be no less than NT $47,971.

Comment System (Point System)
A degree obtained in Taiwan

At least 70 points in the Comment System
Those who graduated in Taiwan can apply for an employment work permit by the Comment System, a scoring criteria for foreign and overseas compatriot students. Employment work permit will be distributed to those who score above 70 points (maximum 200 points).
The application should be made by the employer through the EZ Work Permit Platform.
By the end of 2024, there were 19,205 instances of foreign and overseas compatriot students staying in Taiwan for work, with 91% applying through the comment system. This demonstrates that the comment system has become the primary channel for foreign and overseas compatriot students to remain and work in Taiwan.
What is the Comment System?
Foreign and overseas compatriot students will be assessed based on various criteria, including education, salary, work experience, etc.
The Comment System is only applicable to “specialized or technical works (A01-A15)”.

- A04.Practice of real estate agency
- A05.Immigration services
- A06.Practice of attorneys, or of patent attorneys

- A10.Culture, sports, and recreation services
- A11.Academic research
- A12.Practice of veterinarians

- A15.Other work designated as per the joint consultation of the central governing authority and the central competent authorities

Taiwan Employment Gold Card
Taiwan Employment Gold Card is a four-in-one card that combines work permit, resident visa, Alien Resident Certificate and re-entry permit.
Foreign specialist professionals are eligible to apply for a Gold Card directly, instead of applying through an employer.

TOCFL
The Test of Chinese as a Foreign Language is a standardized test of Mandarin ability for non-native speakers, managed by the Steering Committee for the Test Of Proficiency-Huayu (SC-TOP).
The test type includes Listening & Reading, Speaking, and Writing.

Registration Fee Grant & Awards
To encourage students to improve their Mandarin proficiency, TMU offers incentives to international students who take the TOCFL listening and reading test.
The incentives include full reimbursement of the registration fee and cash awards based on the level achieved in TOCFL listening and reading test.
