New Student Frequently Asked Questions
VISA Application
When should I submit my VISA application?
Once you download the Admission Notice/Enrollment Notification from the TMU admission system, you should contact the overseas Taiwan representative office in/near your country for a visa application.
Will I receive a hard copy of the Admission Notice or Enrollment Notification?
Both documents could be downloaded from the admission system, no hard copy will be provided.
What if the VISA application needs a hard copy of my admission notice/enrollment notification?
TMU has applied a paperless policy for years, and most overseas Taiwan representative offices do accept the soft copy for VISA applications.
If a hard copy of the Admission Notice/Enrollment Notification is requested, please write to admission@tmu.edu.tw and schedule a pickup from the Office of Global Engagement.
Our office is open from 9 AM to 5 PM, Monday to Friday. However, please note that we do not provide service on Wednesdays during the summer break.
Taiwan ARC extension
You can use the Admission Notice to extend your ARC up to 6 months, or extend your ARC up to 1 year with the Enrollment Notification.
6-month Medical Insurance
Foreign resident who holds a resident certificate in Taiwan shall participate in National Health Insurance (NHI) after a full 6 months of residence (having continuously stayed in Taiwan for 6 months, or having stayed in Taiwan for actual 6 months with only one departure for less than 30 days, and the actual duration of residence should exclude the number of days staying abroad).
Before your enrollment to the NHI, all student shall be covered by a medical insurance for any possible medical expenses during their study in Taiwan.
You may contact medical insurance companies in your home country for overseas medical insurance or travel insurance.
Defer or Withdraw My Admission Offer
For personal reasons, I am not able to join TMU this coming semester. Can I defer my admission?
Admitted applicants may request to defer their admission to the next academic year after receiving the official Enrollment Notification via the admission system.
However, your TMU scholarship offer will be revoked.
Also, those holding deferred admission offers are not eligible for Taiwan scholarship applications.
(Deferral is only allowed from a fall intake to the next fall intake; spring admission is not applicable for deferral.)
When can I apply for admission deferral?
Only those who submitted authenticated documents and have received their Enrollment Notification are eligible for the deferral application.
Who should I contact for admission deferral?
Contact your intended program and the Registration Section (registration@tmu.edu.tw) for a deferral application.
If I decide not to join TMU coming semester, can I withdraw my admission and apply for next application round?
Yes, please contact the International Students Section (admission@tmu.edu.tw) to withdraw your admission.
