The 5th Taiwan-Japan Joint Symposium for Pharmaceutical Sciences was held in August, 2019 at Taipei Medical University (TMU), which was attended by Japan’s Hokkaido University, Kyushu University and Tohoku University and Taiwan’s National Yang-Ming University and Taipei Medical University.

This year’s topics of discussion revolved around the science of drug manufacture, where exchanges and symposium talks were held along four major themes of natural drugs, biological drugs, pharmaceutical chemistry and clinical pharmacology.

Prior to the symposium, TMU held bilateral student exchange programs, and exchange students from the visiting Japanese universities along with TMU students also shared their two-week experiences in the TMU laboratories with the symposium delegates. Through this symposium, TMU and National Yang-Ming University was able to further their academic exchange with the four Japanese universities. It is hoped that there would be more diverse collaborative project and research in the future, with multiple avenues to facilitate interactions between teaching staff and students of all the institutions involved.
