The Open Education Global (OEG) is a non-profit, global organization supporting the development and use of open education around the world. It was formerly known as “OpenCourseWare Consortium (OCWC)”, established in 2008. It now has a membership of 240 educational institutions in 44 countries. TMU became an OEG member since the beginning. Moreover, TMU joined the Taiwan counterpart, the Taiwan Open Courses and Education Consortium (TOCEC), as well.

Returning to Asia after its presence in Indonesia seven years ago, the 2020 OEG Conference welcomed more than 700 participants online and physically in Taipei. Ms. Hsu-Tien Wan (萬序恬), Associate Dean of the Office of Information Technology at TMU, an OEG delegate and elected Board of Directors, said that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, students around the world are forced to learn online, making open education an emerging mode of learning which enables students to learn autonomously through online courses. In holding the OEG 2020 conference, the international open education resources hopefully could be popularized in Taiwan, so as to benefit the development of online education provision across Taiwan’s higher education sector.
