Details of the Event
  • APAIE, founded in 2004, aims to advance higher education in the Asia-Pacific region and globally, with an annual conference hosting around 2,500 attendees.
  • The 2024 conference, held from March 4th to 8th in Perth, Australia, the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan coordinated the participation of Taiwan’s higher education institutions under the theme “Study in Taiwan.”
  • Key focus areas included Taiwan’s semiconductor industry, circular economy, biotechnology, healthcare, and artificial intelligence, with participation from 28 Taiwanese universities and Academia Sinica, totaling 64 representatives.
  • The event was co-hosted by five western Australian universities: Curtin University, The University of Western Australia, Murdoch University, The University of Notre Dame Australia, and Edith Cowan University.
Outcome(s) of the Visit
  1. TMU, represented by the Office of Global Engagement, engaged in discussions with over 20 institutions, including University College Dublin, University of Wollongong, and others, to foster international cooperation and promote short-term courses.
  2. Talks with Mr. Gavin Chaw of University College Dublin led to discussions about student exchange programs and plans for a dual-degree program.
  3. Discussions with the University of Wollongong focused on student exchanges and the creation of a summer program, with detailed talks ongoing.
  4. Talks with Mahidol University and Chulalongkorn University aimed at understanding enrollment details for degree programs and enhancing promotion efforts to attract students to TMU.
  5. Other universities expressed interest in TMU’s TMU-STEP short-term programs, indicating potential future collaborations.
