In November 2023, the School of Health Care Administration at Taipei Medical University’s College of Management made history by becoming the first in Taiwan and the second outside North America to be certified by the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA).

The TMU School of Health Care Administration has received certification from the AUPHA, reflecting its dedication to enhance healthcare services both domestically and internationally.

TMU’s successful certification for four years, the longest possible duration for a first-time certification, reflects the program’s exceptional quality and commitment to continuous improvement in teaching, industry collaboration, and international collaborations. This certification marks a significant milestone in developing healthcare administration education in Taiwan, demonstrating the program’s commitment to high-quality teaching and learning environments.

Headquartered in Washington D.C., USA, AUPHA is renowned for its stringent certification standards. Of North America’s 99 undergraduate healthcare administration programs (including the U.S. and Canada), only half have achieved certification. AUPHA is considered the gold standard in health care administration education in the United States. Certified programs are recognized for their comprehensive curriculum, qualified faculty, industry connections, and positive student feedback. This certification validates the program’s quality and significantly enhances its graduates’ employability and further education opportunities in the healthcare industry, building a solid foundation for their future career development. This achievement demonstrates that TMU’s healthcare management education aligns with the standards of advanced countries like the United States and Canada.

Since 2021, the certification preparation has been led by Nai-Wan Kuo, Dean of the College of Management, with the dedicated efforts of Chiung-Hsuan Chiu and Kuo-Cherh Huang, the two Associate Deans, and Wei-Pin Chang, Director of the school. They actively participated in AUPHA meetings and successfully achieved certification.

TMU remains committed to providing high-quality teaching and learning environments in the field of health care administration. This accomplishment ‘enhances TMU’s global standing and promises to enrich Taiwan’s healthcare administration sector. By equipping graduates with the necessary skills to address the complexities of the modern healthcare landscape, TMU aims to enhance healthcare services both domestically and internationally.
