Taipei Medical University Seeks to Strengthens Collaborative Ties with the UK

Taipei Medical University (TMU) President Mai-Szu Wu led a delegation on a visit to the United Kingdom from January 15 to 19, 2024.


The delegation engaged with collaborative partners, initiating discussions at the Taipei Representative Office in the UK, exploring future opportunities for bilateral collaboration in higher education and biomedical technology development. The delegation, consisting of senior leaders, alumni representatives, and international education professionals at TMU, aimed to strengthen ties with UK Higher Education Institutions (HEIs).

During the visit to the University of Oxford, TMU delegation focused on exploring potential collaborations. Discussions included exploring opportunities for collaboration with Oxford Science Enterprises in the field of innovative startups, engaging in conversations with Professor Lionel Tarassenko, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Reuben College of Oxford University, on biomedical engineering research, education, and potential future research collaborations. The delegation also had in-depth discussions with Professor Chas Bountra, Pro-Vice Chancellor for Innovation, regarding potential collaborations in clinical trials. More meetings were arranged with academic units including Botnar Institute for Musculoskeletal Sciences, Nuffield Department of Orthopaedics, Rheumatology, and Musculoskeletal Sciences (NDORMS), and Oxford’s Medical Sciences Division, as well as individual professors and researchers, with specific focuses on potential research collaborations and student exchange.

The delegation also visited King’s College London, concentrating on interdisciplinary learning and student exchange programs, aiming to deepen existing collaborations and expand bilateral academic exchanges.

In the short span of four days, TMU delegation identified areas of mutual interest, enhancing international collaboration in biomedicine in areas including clinical trials, neuroimaging research, orthopedics, musculoskeletal sciences, and aging-related research. With its strong commitment to expanding international collaboration portfolio, TMU expects to further strengthen its engagement with prestigious UK HEIs and contribute the advancement of biomedical sciences.
