On behalf of the faculty and staff members, it is my pleasure to congratulate you on starting your academic journey at Taipei Medical University.

Dear First Year Students,

We are now 20 months into the COVID-19 pandemic. While all of us have been significantly affected and challenged to deal with confusion and uncertainty, we see you demonstrated a great deal of determination when facing adversity, as you stay strong and focused to chase your dream, make it work, and make it here. Applauding for your efforts, we are excited to welcoming you to write one of the most transformative chapters of your life with TMU.

TMU academics are heavily involved in many international research projects in areas including cancer research, neuroscience, pulmonary medicine, and the integration of artificial intelligence into modernday medicine. As a globally-minded educational institution, we not only pride ourselves in the diversity of our innovative courses headed by excellent teaching crew but also are committed to preparing our students with skills found to make a positive impact on this interconnected and fast-paced world.

At TMU, you will be given space, time and support to learn and pursue your research and you are encouraged to dive deeply into exploring the field of your choice. However, don’t forget that education is best played as team sport and a great team with diversity can beat a great individual. Over the social isolation during this pandemic, we realize that there is nothing more important than people. New students joining TMU in 2021 come from 107 institutions across 35 countries, adding to the university’s diversity from which we all benefit in our interpersonal interaction, personal growth, and professional development.

Starting this September, you will officially become a member of this dynamic community. I hope that you, together with 6,000 other fellow students, take full advantage of TMU’s wide-ranging resources, opportunities and programs for learning, service, and community engagement to shape the future you desire, become what inspires people, and make the world better with you here.

Once again, on behalf of the entire university community, welcome to TMU.

With kind regards,
Chien-Huang Lin, Ph.D.
President of Taipei Medical University
