In January 2024, TMU held the International Symposium on Respiratory Medicine with the inauguration ceremony of Chen Wei-Tien Research Center for Thoracic Medicine.

Unveiling the symposium, Jin-Cai Chen, CEO of WIN Semiconductors, shared the exciting news that WIN would fund the research center 100 million NTD, hoping to accelerate the process of finding groundbreaking treatments of pulmonary diseases.

Kang-Yun Lee (right third), Executive Vice President of TMU, noted that respiratory medicine had been a main research field at TMU. Focusing on asthma, pulmonary fibrosis, and COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease), TMU’s research was widely recognized and sponsored by the Taiwan Government.

Yang-Chin Chen, Professor of TMU College of Medicine, and her research team shared the finding in their data.

Yang-Chin Chen, Professor of TMU College of Medicine, revealed the exciting finding that Omega-3 fatty acids are beneficial in decreasing the concentration of nitric oxide in the exhalation in adult patients with asthma. Integrating the data collected from 500 patients over the past ten years, Chen and her research team found that after consuming 4 grams of Omega-3 fatty acids daily for 10 consecutive weeks, significant improvements in pulmonary function showed in the patients. Chen further elaborated that the improvements are revealed in FeNo (Fraction of Exhaled Nitric Oxide) and FEV1 (Forced Expiratory Volume in the first second). Their data pointed out that the higher the dose of Omega-3 fatty acids, the more improvements in FeNo and FEV1 are observed.
