TMU Healthcare System heralded its new era at the beginning of 2024 when SHH (Shuang Ho Hospital) earned recognition as a medical center.

Following suit, TMUH (Taipei Medical University Hospital) is poised to become a prospective medical center while WFH (Wan Fang Hospital) remains to be a medical center for the fifth year.

Established in 1960, the TMU Healthcare System comprises three iconic affiliated hospitals: WFH (left), TMUH (mid), and SHH (right), which have completed the administrative system upgrade of HIS 3.0, advancing to smart hospitals

As the three primary hospitals in the TMU Healthcare System, TMUH, WFH, and SHH feature in different medical specialties; for example, TMUH leads in cancer treatment and cutting-edge medical care, WFH stands out in cardiology and integrated care for chronic diseases, while SHH is renowned for its expertise in neurology and emergency and critical care, epitomizing its role as a translation medicine center. Three hospitals’ unique focuses render TMU Healthcare System a groundbreaking trinity of university, hospital, and biomedical industry.

Additionally, TMUH, WFH, and SHH completed the administrative system upgrade of HIS 3.0, advancing to smart hospitals. HIS 3.0 effectively integrated medical resources across the three hospitals, streamlining administrative procedures through modularization and standardization. Moreover, HIS 3.0 achieves the goal of generating medical records with a single mouse click, greatly reducing the workload of medical staff.

“The road of digital transformation is endless,” remarked Mai-Szu Wu, the President of TMU. He emphasized that the integration of medical recourses represents the initial phase of TMU’s grand goal for digital transformation. “Our ultimate objective is to fully apply cutting-edge AI technology to TMU Healthcare System, thereby realizing the vision of TMU One Campus, a unified hub that provides comprehensive digital and automated medical cloud service.”

What it Takes to Become A Medical Center in Taiwan

A medical center is the highest level in Taiwan’s healthcare structure. Scrutinized by Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare, the hospital will receive a detailed examination of the management of human resources and medical resources, the efficiency of administrative procedures, the quality of medical care, the safety of undergoing surgeries, and so on. With strict standards and limited quotas, a hospital designated as a medical center signifies its high-quality healthcare service and capability to provide advanced and comprehensive treatments to patients.

As three affiliated hospitals are certified as medical centers and a prospective medical center, it’s undoubtedly a milestone for TMU Healthcare System, which also encompasses a dual-campus medical university. The attainment of these designations underscores TMU Healthcare System’s commitment to excellence in healthcare delivery and medical education and further solidifies TMU Healthcare System’s status as a leading cornerstone of Taiwan’s healthcare landscape.
