On March 15th, Taipei Medical University signed an LOI for medical education and research collaboration at Shuang Ho Hospital.

The LOI enables the 3 affiliated hospitals within the TMU Healthcare System to collaborate with 26 medical institutions across Taiwan regarding the areas such as medical service, education and research, and human resources to enhance the quality of service provided to the public.

Notably, the extraordinary healthcare systems in Taiwan, including National Taiwan University, National Cheng Kung University, Taipei Veterans General Hospital, and the National Health Research Institutes all proactively joined the LOI. “I feel privileged to witness the historical moment in Taiwan’s medical field,” remarked Yung-Ming Chang, the Secretary General of Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW), “and I believe with this LOI, the future of Taiwan’s medical industry will be promising and prosperous.”

Currently, the TMU Healthcare System is also involved in a close collaboration with Mackay Memorial Hospital on basic and clinical research. In the future, they anticipate expanding their research fields, for example, clinical trials, industry-academia collaboration, and guidance to technology transformation. Furthermore, TMU Healthcare System is in preparation to bind a contract-based relationship with Lo-Tung Pohai Hospital, aiming to extend its medical services to Taiwan’s rural areas.

Mai-Szu Wu, the President of TMU, expressed the excitement about the partnership with MOHW, which involves over twenty thousand medical professionals. Three main advantages are foreseen for TMU Healthcare System. Regarding education, Taipei Medical University awaits to open specialized education courses with MOHW to cultivate outstanding medical staff. From a research perspective, the establishment of teams dedicated to clinical trials is expected. Lastly, the collaboration can benefit the TMU Healthcare System in managing medical information. As the management of medical information becomes vital and crucial nowadays, TMU Healthcare System is eager to share and refine its HIS 3.0, a platform that integrates its 3 affiliated hospitals’ medical information, with the medical institution involved in the LOI, and further realizes a better and balances medical environment in Taiwan.
